Kathy Leahy sent me this old picture of Marky for inclusion in the memorial section. Marky Masochist was an old school punk from back in the late '70's. An old friend remembers him from his Rude Boy ska days, dancing at Lucky Number. "Marky was a guy good guy, seemed eager to find somewhere to fit in. He fell into a rough crowd after that, with Nazi leanings. We didn't hang out until many years later." Marky did later redeem himself by rejecting those negative values.
Personally,
I never knew him real well. I remember him from OZ in the early days and
I remember that he and his wife, Rochelle, used to go to Mark and Maria's
Bucktown barbecues a lot. I remember that he seemed happy then, but obviously
he wasn't... I remember how shocked I was when I heard that he had committed
suicide.
Marky Masochist
was a notable legend from our early punk scene, a real stand out guy....
